The landmark of Amberg, the so called Stadtbrille, got its name because the two archways of the earlier portcullis resemble a pair of spectacles-Brille, when reflecting in the water of the town’s river, the Vils.Homepage

This historic building was built around the fifteenth century in Amberg and the present building dates from the period 1728 to 1764. The façade shows the four elements of fire, water, earth, air and is well worth a visit.Homepage
The Nabburger Gate belongs to one of the most perfectly preserved medieval town fortifications. It is one of the landmarks of Amberg and was built in the 14th century. Its present day form hasn’t changed since it was constructed in 1576 to 1583 and it is the only gate in Amberg with two towers.Homepage
After the plague and the war in 1634 the town of Amberg promised its citizens, in their time of need, a chapel in honour of the Virgin Mary for her help she gained through God. Due to the continued influx of pilgrims the larger church was erected in 1711. To this day the Franciscans still worship and live here and it is still kept as a place of grace. They also hold a yearly event, the so called Bergfest.Homepage
When you take a walk along this town fortification which is one of the best preserved fortifications in Europe, you will experience the history of Amberg dating back to 1034. The town moat track takes you from the bastion mount to the Nabburger Gate. A very enjoyable historic walk.Homepage
The national horticultural show was staged in Amberg in 1996. Today on this site you can see 26 various artworks, created by 23 different international artists, the whole year round. The round robin walk begins at the famous Stadtbrille and ends 3.5 km on, back at the same place.Homepage
The Vils river was a major trading boat route in its day. Today you can enjoy a historic trip along the Vils on an original river boat from days gone by, which were used for transporting goods in the past. It is something you shouldn’t miss. Tours are available from May – October every Saturday and Sundays and also on public holidays.Homepage
