Das 1580 als Ersatz für einen älteren Schlossdurchgang neu errichtete Wingershofer Tor besticht durch seine Struktur als Doppeltoranlage mit einem – für die damalige Zeit überraschend unmodernen – gotischen Innenbogen.

Wingershofer Gate, scaled by two
Just like with Nabburg Gate exist two versions of the Wingershofer Tor. The first version was created as a result of the „Amberger Uprising (öffnet externe Seite)as part of the castle in 1454. A little over 100 years passed. Then Elector Ludwig VI. decided on a new construction of the gate. The old gate was too integrated into the castle. In the Renaissance style, the new version was finally completed west of the government building in 1580.
Small, but mighty!
The second Wingershofer gate is, typical for its time, a double gate system. This means there is an outer archway, followed by a gate courtyard. This courtyard could be used, for example, to hold people, animals, and carts during inspections. Following this is the inner archway. The Gothic pointed arch, which was already out of fashion back then, is quite unusual here.
